But we havent stopped there! We have also built our own wood-fired clay oven bakery and make all our own fresh breads and pizzas. We also make our own pastas fresh on site and toast our locally-sourced organic coffee traditionally in a clay "comal", over an open wood fire right here on the premises.

We are so pleased with our kitchen workshop that we have it open to the public for all to see. Please stop by and take a look or sit at the bar and watch as our team prepare the days breads, pastas and other produce for our menu.

Cafe Campestre has appeared in both 'Food and Wine' magazine and 'Travel Weekly' among other publications. Our particular passions are authentic curries from India and Asia and for organic salads. International cuisine as well as local dishes can be found on the menu and all include generous helpings of organic herbs, spices, local vegetables and salads grown on our farm, and locally raised livestock

Our restaurant is located right on the main road of Balgue and we offer a comfortable and relaxed dining experience where you can sit on the veranda and watch the world go by or relax out back on our patio and gardens for a more private setting.

We are a child-friendly restaurant and have a number of books which younger children will enjoy. There is WiFi internet on site.

"Cafe Campestre is very careful to source basically all ingredients for their food from Ometepe (or at least Nicaragua) and quite often from their own farm. They work with local ingredients produced by small, family run farms. The result of this is meat that is different from something you would have in the UK or North America. The meat is WAY leaner because of the nature of their grazing lands (it's dry here a lot of the time, the grass isn't as nutrient-rich) and the lack of the drugs and processed feeds that are used in other parts of the world. The staff at Cafe Campestre make amazing food while supporting the community. Enjoy the local tastes, that's why you're travelling!"
